What’s up family, friends, and my jazzy jammers! October was another milestone moment in my music career as I had the opportunity to open up for Dr. Uncle Charlie Wilson during Langston’s Scholarship Gala. According to his website:
“Twice named Billboard’s Top Adult Male R&B Artist, Wilson kick-started the new decade with not one but two No. 1 Adult R&B Song hits: “Forever Valentine” and “One I Got.” Then he wrapped the year by also breaking that chart’s record as the Top Adult Male Artist with the most No. 1’s in three decades.”
He just so happens to be from my hometown of Tulsa, OK, and has close ties to my neighborhood so it was particularly special to have the opportunity to see him live. His band was fire and his show was high energy despite his age. Langston University presented him with an honorary doctorate that night, another accomplishment to his decorated list. His story of overcoming addiction, cancer, and coming out on the other side is powerful.
This month, I’ll be with the Positive Production band at the elegant Crown Uptown Theatre in Wichita Kansas for a “Jazz Night Out”. The show comes with a bottle of wine, a meal, and a show you don’t want to miss. This month will also kick off the start of holiday sax music during my Luminance holiday show at Mitch Park.
